With Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum making All-NBA Teams this season, both players are now eligible for supermax extensions with the Boston Celtics.

Brown can sign a five-year, $290 million extension this offseason that would begin with the 24-25 season.

Tatum is automatically eligible for a supermax extension in 2024 after making an All-NBA team in two straight seasons with the deal worth between $308 million and $318 million over five years depending on where the cap comes in.

Brown and Tatum were third overall picks by the Celtics in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

The Toronto Raptors have looked into the possibility of JJ Redick for their head coaching vacancy, a source has told Michael Grange of Sportsnet.ca. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Redick had an actual interview with the Raptors.

Redick has a fledging career in broadcasting after his retirement in 2021.

Redick has spoken openly about possibly coaching in the future.

Steve Nash, Derek Fisher, Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson, Isiah Thomas and Steve Kerr are among some of the former players who became head coach in the NBA without any prior experience as an assistant coach or as a college head coach.

The Raptors have been linked with a number of current assistant such as Charles Lee, Sam Cassell, Kenny Atkinson, Jordi Fernandez, Adrian Griffin and David Adelman. Other candidates include Becky Hammon, Jerry Stackhouse and Patrick Mutombo.

The NBA announced that Mike Krzyzewski has been appointed Special Adviser to Basketball Operations.

In his new role, Krzyzewski will provide counsel to the league office, NBA team executives and other leaders across the league on a host of issues related to the game. He will begin in this consulting capacity by attending a meeting of NBA general managers next week in Chicago.

“We are honored to have Coach K join the NBA family and share his vast experience and expertise with the league and our teams,” said NBA President, League Operations Byron Spruell. “As a preeminent coach and renowned leader who cares deeply about the game of basketball, he is uniquely suited to drive discussions and offer insights about the present and future of the NBA.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity to deepen my connection to the NBA and participate in conversations about further strengthening the league and the game,” said Krzyzewski. “Even in my retirement from coaching, my passion for the sport has never been higher. This role will enable me to stay engaged with basketball at the highest level.”
