Ravens linebacker Matthew Judon criticized the timing of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s assertion that the league believes “black lives matter,” saying Monday that the message should have been delivered long ago. Speaking in a video conference call with the Baltimore media, Judon said the comment was long overdue. “It’s not when Roger Goodell said black lives matter that now everybody can say it,” Judon said.

The chance that there will be no Major League Baseball season increased substantially Monday when the the commissioner’s office told the players’ association it will not proceed with a schedule unless the threat of legal action by the union is resolved. MLB informed the union it would announce a schedule and a date for the resumption of spring training if the union agrees to waive claims that MLB violated the March 26 agreement between the sides or if the union agreed to an expedited grievance procedure. MLB said absent a solution, the dispute would remain an impediment to starting play.

The Indianapolis Colts will add career sacks leader Robert Mathis to their Ring of Honor this year. The team announced Monday the induction ceremony will take place Nov. 22 when the Colts host the Green Bay Packers. Mathis played his entire 14-season NFL career in Indianapolis and was best known for his chop to jar balls loose from quarterbacks.
