After singling for his 1,000th career hit with the Angels in the sixth inning of Friday’s series opener against the A’s, Pujols became the ninth player to collect 1,000 hits in each league. The first 2,073 hits of his career came in the National League with the Cardinals.

But Boston’s 14 runs in the final four frames overwhelmed Baltimore’s pitching, which gave up 10 walks and nine extra-base hits in the loss.
