For the Crew, Manny Pina homered, and Eric Thames, Travis Shaw and Jesus Aguilar all had multi-RBI games, while Matt Carpenter stayed hot with a homer for St. Louis. Brent Suter (7 IP, 2 ER) was terrific in outdueling Carlos Martinez, who only lasted four innings as his struggles continued.

The Nationals slotted Bryce Harper into the leadoff spot for Thursday’s game against the Orioles, in effort to help him see more pitches and draw more walks. It was a move manager Dave Martinez employed earlier this season when he was trying to get Harper more strikes to hit to break out of a slump. And a move Martinez felt comfortable making because he could slot rookie phenom Juan Soto into the cleanup spot.
