ALBANY, Bahamas — Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods both had cause for celebrations large and small at the Hero World Challenge. Fowler rallied from a seven-shot deficit by opening with seven straight birdies at Albany Golf Club and closed with an 11-under 61 Sunday for his second victory worldwide. It was the second time in his eight years on TOUR that he won multiple times around the world. Woods had his best finish in four years. Playing for the first time in 10 months while recovering from a fourth back surgery, Woods closed with a 68 despite a bogey-bogey finish. Even so, his back felt good and he was swinging at full strength. He tied for ninth in the 18-man field, his best result since a playoff loss at this holiday event in 2013.
Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor came off the field after a third-down incompletion in the fourth quarter and was carted off during the Patriots’ ensuing offensive series.
Tiger Woods posted three under-par rounds at the Hero World Challenge, including a final-round 4-under 68 highlighted by an eagle and a half-dozen birdies.
Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Sunday’s win over the Lions.
Tiger Woods closed out the Hero World Challenge at 8-under for the tournament, which can’t be considered anything but a success.
Representatives for Giancarlo Stanton, the reigning National League MVP, met with the Giants and Cardinals late in the week, as each team attempted to convince Stanton to waive his no-trade clause and pave the way for a blockbuster deal. The context behind those meetings became clearer on Sunday: Multiple sources said the Marlins have agreed upon the general framework of a Stanton trade with both San Francisco and St. Louis. Of course, those deals are on hold while Stanton considers whether he’d accept a deal to either team.
The 38-year-old QB has a good defense, a dynamic set of playmakers around him and what could be one final chance to win his second Super Bowl ring.
ALBANY, Bahamas – The future looks bright for Tiger Woods after the 79-time PGA TOUR winner successfully negotiated all four rounds at the Hero World Challenge in his long-awaited comeback from back surgery. Woods, who had his back fused just seven months ago, bounced back from an average third round with his lowest round of the tournament on Sunday. In his traditional Sunday red shirt and black pants, Woods added a 4-under 68 to his opening rounds of 69-68-75 to finish at 8 under for the tournament and sits mid-field in the 18-man event at Albany. Showing speed and power with his full swings and seemingly without any discomfort despite four back surgeries to his name the two-time FedExCup champion proved a return to regular PGA TOUR duties is far from beyond him. The 14-time major champion will turn 42 on December 30 and his likely schedule is yet to be confirmed, however, there were enough positives from the four rounds to suggest Woods can be a regular contender again. If history is anything to go by, the likely return to his first full-field TOUR event will come at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in late January, the last place Woods played in an official event.
