Anders Lee got the Islanders off to a fast start with a big power-play goal early, and they held on for a needed win. Anthony Beauvillier also scored to help New York preserve its slim playoff chances with a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. Jaroslav Halak stopped 26 shots as the Islanders pulled four points behind Boston for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.

Sidney Crosby came through to help the Pittsburgh Penguins pull out another close win. The Penguins’ captain scored a goal and an assist in regulation and then got the clinching tally in the shootout to help Pittsburgh snap a four-game skid with a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Friday night. Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust also scored for Pittsburgh, and Matt Murray stopped 30 shots for his 29th victory of the season.

Isaiah Thomas and the Boston Celtics passed a surprisingly tough test Friday night to keep their hold atop the Eastern Conference. Thomas scored 35 points, Jae Crowder had 18 and the Celtics rallied to beat the Orlando Magic 117-116 to maintain their slim lead over Cleveland in the East. The Cavaliers won easily against Philadelphia, staying within a half-game of Boston.

After playing cat and mouse with the Indiana Pacers for much the first half Friday night, the Toronto Raptors scored 34 points in the third quarter to take full control. With DeMar DeRozan’s 40 points leading the way, they cruised to a 111-100 victory Friday night, the Raptors’ seventh straight home win over the Pacers. ”We can’t give them hope or let them catch a rhythm,” DeRozan said.

Mike Conley scored 28 points, Zach Randolph added 22 points and 12 rebounds, and the Memphis Grizzlies clinched a playoff spot with a 99-90 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night. Memphis’ win, coupled with Denver’s 122-114 loss at Charlotte earlier Friday night, earned the Grizzlies their seventh straight postseason berth. Dallas made six of its first nine 3-point attempts in the final frame, a jumper by Wesley Matthews cutting Memphis’ advantage to 94-90 with just over a minute left.
