Fantasy Insider: Zurich Classic of New OrleansFantasy Insider: Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans gives PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf presented by SERVPRO gamers the week off. So, this week’s FI is abbreviated save relevant staples. However, the One & Done will be active as usual. I’ll be digging into it on Wednesday as scheduled. Monday’s Power Rankings laid out numerous fantasy-related matters as it concerns the format, but it didn’t address how to deal with the final results if you’re in a full-season league including the tournament. Let’s tackle that here. The winning team at TPC Louisiana will split the totals for FedExCup points and earnings typically distributed to the first- and second-place finishers. This means that a team finishing alone in second place will share the points and earnings for third and fourth place. (You can extrapolate this throughout the entirety of the results.) However, some fantasy leagues assign value to actual finish and not how the PGA TOUR will measure the points and earnings. Unless you adjust, this would result in heavier weighting based on team finish. The resolution is easy. Consider reassigning overall finish individually and not by team. For example, if there’s a team the finishes alone in second place, both will appear as finishing T2, but my advice is to reassign them as T3 for your purposes to retain equal weighting in the long-term. Similarly, a team that finishes alone in 10th place will have been beaten by 18 golfers (on nine teams), so assign values of T19 to each. After all, they’ll be sharing FedExCup points and earnings appropriated to 19th and 20th place. Power Rankings Wild Card J.B. Holmes and Bubba Watson … It’s not quite a tale of misery loves company, but maybe this is exactly what each bomber needs. Holmes has slumped with no better than a solo 50th at the Masters in his last three starts, while Watson hasn’t turned in a top 25 in a full-field event since a T13 at the 2016 Barclays. He emerged from pool play at the Match Play a month ago but still hasn’t put four rounds together since changing the ball he uses. TPC Louisiana has been kind to both, too. Watson is a former winner (2011) with a total of four top 20s, but he hasn’t appeared since 2013. Holmes placed T13 (2012) and T11 (2014) in his last two trips. They know they can air it out on the tee around this joint, so expect nothing less. Notable WDs Rod Pampling and John Senden … Since winning the Shriners in the fall, Pampling has been quiet on U.S. soil but still slots 27th in the FedExCup standings. Senden is 182nd and hasn’t recorded a top 30 on the PGA TOUR since the PGA Championship nine months ago. AVONDALE, La. – This is a landmark week for the PGA TOUR as it holds its first team event since 1981. You can watch on PGA TOUR LIVE as two-man teams of the TOUR’s top players try to conquer TPC Louisiana. The Zurich Classic’s four rounds will alternate between Foursomes (alternate shot) on Thursday and Saturday and Four-Balls on Friday and Sunday. The winning team will earn 400 FedExCup points. Six of the top 10 players in the FedExCup are in this week’s field, including No. 2 Hideki Matsuyama and No. 3 Justin Thomas. The likes of Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson will also appear on PGA TOUR LIVE’s Featured Groups coverage this week. PGA TOUR LIVE will broadcast from 9 a.m. ET until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, and will start an hour earlier on Friday. The broadcast will be available on Twitter (pgatourlive.twitter.com) from approximately 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, and 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday. The PGA TOUR LIVE broadcast will switch to Featured Holes coverage at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday and Friday. The Featured Holes are TPC Louisiana’s par-3 14th and the par-4 16th. MORE: Tee times Here are this week’s Featured Groups (Note: All times Eastern; FedExCup rankings in parentheses): THURSDAY (Foursomes) Jason Day (92)-Rickie Fowler (8), Daniel Berger (25)-Thomas Pieters (NR): The past two winners of THE PLAYERS Championship comprise one team in this group. Day will defend his title in two weeks at TPC Sawgrass, while Fowler won there in 2015. They’re teammates this week, but could be foes come this year’s Presidents Cup. Day leads the International Team’s standings, while Fowler ranks fourth in the U.S. standings. They’ll tee it up at TPC Louisiana alongside two of the game’s young stars, Thomas Pieters and Daniel Berger. Berger currently stands sixth in the United States’ Presidents Cup standings as he tries to join Fowler on Steve Stricker’s team. Pieters, who’s coming off a fourth-place finish at the Masters, starred for Europe as a rookie at last year’s Ryder Cup, going 4-1-0 at Hazeltine. Tee time: 9:32 a.m. Eastern off No. 10 Justin Rose (9)-Henrik Stenson (72), Hideki Matsuyama (2)-Hideto Tanihara (NR): The top two finishers at last year’s Olympics are paired along with two of Japan’s top players. Rose made birdie on the final hole in Rio de Janeiro to win the Gold Medal by a stroke over Stenson. Stenson also won last year’s Open Championship, while Rose nearly added a second major to his resume at the Masters, losing to Sergio Garcia in a sudden-death playoff at Augusta National. Rose also is the 2015 Zurich Classic champion. Matsuyama and Tanihara could be teammates at this year’s Presidents Cup, as well. Matsuyama, a two-time winner this season, is poised to play his third consecutive Presidents Cup, while Tanihara ranks 11th in the International standings after his fourth-place finish at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Tee time: 9:42 a.m. Eastern off No. 10 FRIDAY (Four-Balls) Bubba Watson (134)-J.B. Holmes (106), Kevin Chappell (21)-Gary Woodland (15): Watson and Holmes aren’t just characters from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels. They’re also a successful pairing on the golf course. They went 2-1-1 in the United States’ victory in the 2015 Presidents Cup. Watson also is the 2011 Zurich Classic champion. They’ll play alongside the PGA TOUR’s most recent winner and one of the game’s longest hitters. Chappell earned his first PGA TOUR victory at last week’s Valero Texas Open, while Woodland is a two-time runner-up this season. Tee time: 8:52 a.m. Eastern off No. 10 Jordan Spieth (6), Ryan Palmer (161), Justin Thomas (3)-Bud Cauley (63): It’s only April, but there could be plenty of football talk in this group. Thomas and Cauley are former Alabama teammates, while Spieth and Palmer both attended college in the Lone Star State. Spieth went to the University of Texas, while Palmer is a Texas A&M Aggie. Their teams may be rivals, but they’re joining forces this week. Thomas has a PGA TOUR-leading three wins this season, while Spieth claimed the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Cauley is coming off consecutive top-10s at the RBC Heritage and Valero Texas Open. Tee time: 9:05 a.m. Eastern off No. 10
