A lawyer for former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez has objected to the judge’s selection of a white woman as the jury forewoman in his double-murder trial. Attorney Ronald Sullivan Jr. made his argument Monday as jurors started their second day of deliberations. Sullivan said the choice of a white woman on the mostly minority jury ”has very troubling racial overtones.” He said choosing her as forewoman ensured she would remain on the jury instead of being dismissed as an alternate.

Foul play is not suspected in the disappearance of former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon, but authorities are continuing to search for the retired athlete, police said Monday. Nixon, 58, was last seen around 10 a.m. Saturday leaving his home in Woodstock, Georgia, about 30 miles (48 kilometers)northwest of downtown Atlanta, police said. ”Detectives are following up on leads received overnight,” Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said Monday.

Dale Tallon is back in his old job, and the Florida Panthers hope that’s the first step toward getting back to the playoffs. The Panthers reinstated Tallon as general manager on Monday, while removing Tom Rowe from both that position and his role as interim coach one day after Florida’s season ended well short of a postseason berth. Tallon was Florida’s general manager for six years before Rowe got the title last May. Tallon is also retaining the role as the Panthers’ president of hockey operations.

An authentic green jacket from Augusta National Golf Club that was once bought for $5 at a thrift store has sold at auction for more than $139,000. Green Jacket Auctions says the distinctive sport coat worn by members of the famed Georgia club and presented each year to the winner of the Master’s tournament was sold Saturday, a day before the final round of this year’s Masters.
