AUSTIN, Texas – Jason Day’s mother Adenil “Dening” Day has successfully come through surgery for lung cancer at The James Cancer Institute at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus Ohio today. The Day family released a statement saying she is resting comfortably and doctors are optimistic about her recovery. Day emotionally withdrew from the World Golf Championships – Dell Technologies Match Play on Wednesday after revealing the burden of an initial terminal diagnoses Dening received in Australia. “Mum and our entire family would like to thank all of our friends and supporters who have reached out in an incredible outpouring of love during such a difficult period. We are praying for her recovery,” Day said in the brief statement. There is still no word on when Day will return to competitive golf although the good news makes his place at the Masters in two weeks much more likely. Day is no stranger to the ravages of the disease, losing his father Alvyn to stomach cancer when he was just 12 years old. “It’s been very, very emotional, as you can tell. I’ve already gone through it once with my dad. And I know how it feels. And it’s hard enough to see another one go through it, as well,” the 10-time PGA TOUR winner said earlier in the week. “So as of now I’m going to try to be back there with my mom for surgery and make sure everything goes right with her. “Emotionally it’s been wearing on me for a while. And I know my mum says not to let it get to me, but it really has. “So I just need some time away with her to make sure that everything goes well because this has been very, very tough for me. “I’m going to do my best and try and be there the best I can for her because she is the reason that I’m playing golf today. “Family is first and it’s just — it’s just a hard time. “I’m hoping for a speedy recovery for her, and we can get this behind us and she can live a long, long life.”
