Fulmer, making his second start since spraining the ankle during an agility drill on March 4, gave up three runs and four hits in 3 1-3 innings in a 3-0 loss Friday to the New York Yankees. The Tigers had targeted him for 55 to 60.

The New York Giants are convinced star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is fully healed from a fireworks accident that severely damaged his right hand. ”This is where I wanted to be,” Pierre-Paul told the Giants website Friday. Two summers ago, on July 4, Pierre-Paul’s right hand was severely damaged in a fireworks accident in Florida.

The Miami Marlins are still waiting to learn the extent of third baseman Martin Prado’s hamstring injury, including whether he’ll be available for opening day. Playing for Team Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, Prado hurt himself running out a grounder in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s loss to Team USA. ”Hopefully it’s minor, Grade I (strain), and that we’re able to kind of continue and have him ready, but we’ll just have to wait and see,” Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Friday.

Charley Hoffman wasn’t expecting to be at Bay Hill until he didn’t qualify for a World Golf Championship next week. In only his fourth appearance in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in the last decade, Hoffman made seven birdies in slightly warmer conditions Friday for a 6-under 66 that gave him a two-shot lead over Matt Fitzpatrick of England among the early starters. Fitzpatrick had one of only five birdies in the morning draw on the 232-yard 17th hole and shot 69.
