Carson Wentz gets to throw to a pair of accomplished receivers next season. The Philadelphia Eagles agreed on a one-year deal with wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, a few hours after giving wideout Torrey Smith a three-year deal on Thursday. The 27-year-old Jeffery is coming off two down seasons in which he missed 11 games due to injury and suspension.

The NBA has fined Jared Dudley of the Phoenix Suns and Brandon Jennings of the Washington Wizards $35,000 apiece for their roles in an altercation during a game Tuesday night in Phoenix. Dudley was fined for ”escalating an altercation” by confronting and giving a head-butt to the Wizards’ Jason Smith after Smith knocked down the Suns’ Tyler Ulis with a hard screen.

Oakland Athletics ace Sonny Gray will begin the season on the disabled list with a lat strain and has been shut down from throwing for the next three weeks. The team made the announcement Thursday, and general manager David Forst said there’s no timetable for the right-hander beyond the preliminary stretch. This is a big blow to the A’s and Gray, who was eager to start fresh following a forgettable 2016.
