Jason Day has withdrawn from the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship because of the flu and ear infections. Day released the following statement: “I’m truly disappointed to announce that I won’t be able to play in next week’s World Golf Championship-Mexico Championship. I have a double ear infection and the flu, which precludes me from preparing for and playing in the tournament. I have heard great things about the Mexico Championship and the golf course. I want to thank the Salinas family for their support of the event. I look forward to teeing it up there next year.” Day ranks 79th in the FedExCup with one top-10, a fifth-place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, in four starts this season. Earlier this week, Day committed to defend his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, which is scheduled for March 16-19. He also is the defending champion at the following week’s World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and THE PLAYERS Championship on May 11-14. Day, the world’s second-ranked player, was supplanted atop the Official World Golf Ranking when Dustin Johnson won the Genesis Open on Feb. 19.
