Kevin Tway shot 65 on Monday at Industry Hills’ Eisenhower Course to earn medalist honors at the Monday qualifier for the Genesis Open. Tway, 28, finished one shot ahead of former UCLA All-American Jonathan Garrick. Garrick’s alma mater is just four miles from Riviera Country Club, site of the Genesis Open. Tway’s former Oklahoma State teammate, Kevin Dougherty, and PGA TOUR rookie J.T. Poston advanced out of a playoff for the final two spots in the field. They both shot 67 on Monday, as did Tag Ridings, Kenny Pigman, Brandon Hagy and Steve Alker. Tway, the son of former PGA Championship winner Bob Tway, is in his second season on the PGA TOUR. He’s made the cut in 6-of-9 starts this season and ranks 157th in the FedExCup. He finished 27th on last year’s Web.com Tour money list, then earned his TOUR card with a third-place finish at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. That was the final event of the Web.com Tour season after Hurricane Matthew forced the cancellation of the Web.com Tour Championship. Tway also was a PGA TOUR member in 2013-14, finishing 177th in the FedExCup. Garrick, 22, made his PGA TOUR debut earlier this season at November’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba. He finished T69 after receiving a sponsor exemption into the field. Garrick competed on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada last year after graduating from UCLA with a degree in history. He finished 37th on the PGA TOUR Canada money list after posting two top 10s in nine starts. Poston, a PGA TOUR rookie out of Western Carolina, ranks 135th in the FedExCup. The 23-year-old has made 6-of-9 cuts this season. He finished 10th on the Web.com Tour’s Regular Season money list in 2016. Dougherty, 25, will be making his PGA TOUR debut. He shares a hometown (Murrieta, California) and alma mater (Oklahoma State) with Rickie Fowler. They’re both former California state high school champions, as well. Dougherty has conditional Web.com Tour status this season after making it to Q-School’s final stage, where he finished T113.

Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett suffered a broken fibula in Week 16, but he believes he’ll come back even stronger, saying his leg surgery "wasn’t hard at all."
Tom Brady’s jersey is still missing, and based on the most recent comments from Patriots owner Robert Kraft, it sounds like it will not be returned anytime soon.
Kevin Love won’t be able to help the Cavaliers down the stretch this season. The All-Star forward will miss at least six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday, a blow to the defending NBA champions as they try to lock up the top seed in the Eastern Conference and home-court advantage in the playoffs. Love, who is having his best season with Cleveland, had a ”loose body” removed from his knee by orthopedic surgeon David Altchek in New York, the Cavs said.
More than a week after the Falcons fell victim to the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, an Atlanta zoo has named a cockroach after Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Zoo Atlanta says on its Facebook page that it had a bet with Rhode Island’s Roger Williams Park Zoo that called for the loser to name a baby animal after the winning team’s star quarterback. Both zoos figured the loser would be pretty bitter about the game, so they agreed the animal in question would be a Madagascar hissing cockroach.

Charles Oakley is allowed back in Madison Square Garden. The former New York Knicks star’s ban from the arena has been lifted, a person briefed on the discussions told Sports Betting News on Tuesday. MSG chairman James Dolan banned Oakley last week, two days after the former power forward had an altercation with security guards while attending a game.
One of Danica Patrick’s sponsors has stepped up to fill a sudden funding void created when Stewart-Haas Racing sued her primary backer for $31 million in a breach-of-contract lawsuit. Aspen Dental said Tuesday it will be the lead sponsor for Patrick and debut on her car during the Feb. 26 season-opening Daytona 500. Patrick and SHR were left with 20-some races to fill less than two weeks before teams report to Daytona International Speedway because of a nasty split between the team and primary sponsor Nature’s Bakery.
