The Houston Rockets weren’t thrilled that they let a huge lead dwindle to less than 10 points in the fourth quarter on Tuesday night. James Harden had 25 points and 13 assists as the Rockets built a big lead early and held off a late rally to get a 128-104 win over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night. The Rockets had led by as many as 23 before the Magic begin chipping away at the lead.

The Charlotte Hornets were simply happy it wasn’t them as they snapped a seven-game losing streak and held onto a 111-107 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Charlotte (24-28) had not won since a Jan. 21 triumph over Brooklyn. The Nets (9-43) dropped their 10th straight, and still have not won since a Jan. 20 victory at New Orleans.

Capitals coach Barry Trotz thinks his team is tough for anyone to handle when all its lines are clicking. Washington got contributions up and down the lineup and put up another 5-spot in thumping the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0 on Tuesday night for their fourth consecutive win. Washington has won 10 in a row at home and scored five-plus goals in the last nine of those games, with the offense coming from just about everywhere.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – A total of 312 players – 156 pros and 156 amateur partners – will tee off Thursday in the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Among those is New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, fresh off his fifth Super Bowl win on Sunday. Belichick will partner with pro Ricky Barnes, whose father Bruce once punted for the Patriots. Barnes and Belichick have previous experience playing together in this event, and Barnes also played with quarterback Tom Brady during the 2014 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Bill Murray will also make his usual appearance at Pebble Beach, paired once again with D.A. Points. Those two took the pro-am team title in 2011 when Points won the tournament. Three courses are in the rotation – Pebble Beach, Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill – and then a cut will be made after 54 holes. Mike Napoli and the Texas Rangers are working toward another reunion, this time to fill pressing needs the AL West champions have for a first baseman and another big bat in the middle of the lineup. Texas general manager Jon Daniels didn’t respond to messages from the AP. The AL West champion Rangers would have to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Napoli, which means a deal may not be finalized until after spring training opens.
