Cleveland’s All-Star forward expects to play Saturday night in New York after missing the past two games with a lower back issue he said is now ”under control.” The 28-year-old practiced Friday and said afterward that he’s confident he won’t miss any more time. For weeks, Love has been mentioned in trade speculation involving the Knicks and Carmelo Anthony.

The Royals felt comfortable trading star closer Wade Davis in part because they had Kelvin Herrera, a two-time All-Star in his own right, ready to assume the job this season. The deal allows the sides to avoid arbitration and is a substantial boost from the $2.6 million Herrera made last season. When the sides swapped proposed salaries last month, the Royals offered $5.05 million and Herrera requested $5.6 million.

For the Florida Panthers, the 52nd game of the season comes with an opening-night feel. Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov – two of the Panthers’ top offensive players and Jaromir Jagr’s expected linemates entering the season – are back in the lineup, with their clearances being announced Friday before the Panthers played host to Anaheim. Huberdeau has been out since severing his Achilles tendon in the preseason, and Barkov missed more than a month while recovering from a back injury.
