Woody Austin completed a wire-to-wire victory Sunday in the Diamond Resorts Invitational and former pitcher Mark Mulder took the celebrity title. Austin closed with a 6-under 66 on the Four Seasons Resort’s Tranquilo course, earning 31 points in the modified Stableford scoring system to finish the three-round event at 104 – eight points ahead of second-place Joe Durant. Austin opened with an 11-under 59.

Toronto outscored New York 27-8 in the third to take a 96-62 lead. DeMarre Carroll added 20 points, and Jonas Valanciunas had 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Wesley Matthews had 19 points and Dirk Nowitzki added 17 as the Mavericks spread out the scoring and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-87 on Sunday. Dallas dressed four players with 10 or more years in the NBA – Minnesota has none – and all of them reached double figures.

Despite a sluggish beginning that forced backup goaltender Philipp Grubauer to be on top of his game, the Capitals’ offense came to life in a 5-0 blowout of the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. Washington has won a season-best nine in a row to climb atop the Metropolitan Division, Eastern Conference and NHL standings with 63 points.
