Marv Levy, the cerebral coach who led the Buffalo Bills to an unprecedented four straight Super Bowls but couldn’t revive a struggling franchise, told the team Monday he would not return as the Bills’ general manager. Bills safety George Wilson told Sports Betting News that the 82-year-old Levy opened the team’s wrap-up meeting with a five-minute speech during which he said he won’t return as GM.

Irish-bred Daytona held off Proudinsky by three-quarters of a length Sunday in the $150,000 San Gabriel Handicap at Santa Anita. Ridden by Mike Smith, Daytona took the lead on the backstretch and never yielded, covering 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:47.57. Daytona paid $6.60, $3.80 and $2.80. Proudinsky returned $4.20 and $3.20, and Medici Code paid $3 to show.

Naughty New Yorker scored a repeat victory Sunday in the $83,375 Alex M. Robb Handicap for New York breds at Aqueduct. The margin was much closer this time. Naughty New Yorker beat Shuffling Maddnes by only three quarters of a length after prevailing by 2 3/4 lengths last year. The time was 1:44.32 for the 1 1-16 miles on the good track.

Patrick Valenzuela, whose career has been marred by a history of substance abuse and suspensions, has been stripped of his conditional jockey license after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. A notice of the termination of Valenzuela’s license was issued Friday by the California Horse Racing Board.

The New York Racing Association agreed to an extension with the state to avoid any interruption of thoroughbred racing the next few weeks. NYRA’s agreement to operate Aqueduct, Saratoga and Belmont Park expires Monday. Horses currently are running at Aqueduct. The governor’s office confirmed the temporary extension while negotiations on a new agreement continue.
