Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins took full advantage of their time off. After a season-high five days off between games, Pittsburgh scored twice in the first 3:38 of the game and cruised to a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Friday night. Crosby was flying around the ice and had two goals, and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 22 of 23 shots for the Penguins, who have won three in a row.

The Carolina Hurricanes finally played like division leaders against last-place Washington. It still wasn’t enough to satisfy Rod Brind’Amour. The Carolina captain scored two goals to lead the Hurricanes past the Capitals 4-3 on Friday night. “The other night I played pretty well and got nothing,” Brind’Amour said, referring to a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia two nights earlier.

Zach Parise downplayed his first three-goal game. “It was just one of the those nights,” Parise said. “Sometimes you get the bounces. Sometimes you play a great game and have nothing to show for it.” Parise sparked the offense, Martin Brodeur made 27 saves for his 94th shutout and New Jersey Devils extended their winning streak to six with a 4-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night.
