Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler doesn’t have the hairline fracture in his left leg he feared. An MRI exam Monday was negative, but coach Mike Shanahan said he didn’t know if Cutler would practice much this week or be under center Sunday at Kansas City. “He doesn’t have a stress fracture, which is a positive,” Shanahan said.
Packers safety Nick Collins will miss several games with a knee injury after making an awkward tackle. “We all figured the worse the way he went down,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. “It’s going to be at least a couple of weeks.” Collins sprained a ligament in his left knee on Sunday in Green Bay’s 33-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs as the Packers improved to 7-1.

Alison Nicholas will captain Europe’s Solheim Cup team for the 2009 matches, hoping to stop the United States from winning the title for a third time in a row. A six-time player on the team and twice a winner, Nicholas was assistant captain to Catrin Nilsmark in 2003, when Europe last won the competition contested every two years between the top players in the U.S.
