Kyle Busch made the most out of a lucky break Saturday, pulling away from Ron Hornaday Jr. to win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Midnight Lute closed strongly from off the pace and won the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint by 4 3/4 lengths Saturday, sending trainer Bob Baffert to the winner’s circle at Monmouth Park for the second time. Baffert opened the eight-race Breeders’ Cup card by winning the $2 million Juvenile Fillies with Indian Blessing.

Lahudood won the trouble-filled $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf on Saturday at Monmouth Park. Lahudood was one of the horses who did not mind the grass softened by several days of rain. The 4-year-old dug in to beat Honey Ryder by three-quarters of length for her second straight major stakes upset.
Nick Zito, go ahead and book a reservation for the first Saturday in May. Undefeated War Pass gave the Hall of Fame trainer an entry into next year’s Kentucky Derby with a 4 1/2 -length victory in Saturday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. The colt led all the way, beating Pyro by 4 1/2 lengths, for Zito’s first victory in racing’s richest event since 1996.
The best 2-year-olds belong to Bob Baffert and Nick Zito. Baffert’s Indian Blessing opened the second day of the Breeders’ Cup with a wire-to-wire victory in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies, and Zito’s War Pass won the $2 million Juvenile in similar fashion over a sloppy track at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Annabill beat Running Las by 1 1/2 lengths Saturday in the $50,000 Copano Stakes at Calder Race Course. Annabill, ridden by Junior Alvarado, ran 7 1/2 furlongs in 1:38.60 and paid $4.80, $4 and $2.60. Running Lass returned $7.60 and $3.80, and Mias Reflection paid $2.40 to show.
