Holmes returns, Chiefs top Raiders againHolmes returns, Chiefs top Raiders again

Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes (31) runs in front of Oakland Raiders defensive end Tommy Kelly (93) in the fourth quarter of their NFL football game in Oakland, Calif., Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007. The Chiefs defeated the Raiders, 12-10.

This game looked just like the meetings the previous two seasons between Kansas City and Oakland. Except that Priest Holmes was on the field. Another close game that wasn’t decided until the final minutes ended in the Chiefs’ favor Sunday. Larry Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run early in the fourth quarter and Jarrad Page had another clinching interception in the final minute to…

Tom Brady emerged from the locker room Sunday wearing a suit and tie complemented by a pocket scarf, his stylish look marred only by a few small drink stains on his coat. So he’s not perfect. But he and the New England Patriots are awfully good. Flawless at the start and off the bench, Brady threw a team-record six touchdown passes to help the unbeaten Patriots rout the winless Miami Dolphins 49-28.

Bironas’ NFL-record 8 FGs lift TitansBironas’ NFL-record 8 FGs lift Titans

Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas (2) is congratulated by fans as he leaves the field after kicking the game-winning 29-yard field goal during the closing seconds of the fourth quarter of an NFL football game against the Houston Texans Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 in Houston. Bironas set a new NFL record by kicking eight field goals in the Titans 38-36 win over the Texans.

With Vince Young on the sidelines, the Tennessee Titans couldn’t finish drives. With the day Rob Bironas had, it didn’t matter. Bironas kicked an NFL-record eight field goals, including the game-winner as time expired, to lead the Titans to a 38-36 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. Backup Kerry Collins led the offense while Young missed playing in his hometown because of a strained quadriceps.

Redskins hold on to beat Cardinals 21-19Redskins hold on to beat Cardinals 21-19

Arizona Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers reacts after missing what would have been the game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter of an NFL football game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 in Landover, Md. The Redskins won the game 21-19.

In the final 30 seconds, the Arizona Cardinals used three quarterbacks, scored a touchdown, failed on a 2-point conversion, recovered an onside kick and barely — just barely — missed a 55-yard field goal. It was only after Neil Rackers’ kick sailed wide left that the Washington Redskins could take a deep sigh, digest all that happened and realize that, despite their effort, they had not quite…
