There will be no comeback this season by Trent Green, leaving the Miami Dolphins with an uncertain quarterback situation yet again. Green was placed on injured reserve Saturday, shelving him for the rest of the season following his second severe concussion in 13 months. The 37-year-old said he has made no decision about playing next year.

On Thursday, the Magic pounded a team of Chinese All-Stars 116-92.

The NBA preseason game between the New Jersey Nets and Boston Celtics was canceled after one half Friday night because of damp court conditions at the DCU Center. Boston led 36-33 at halftime when the game was called because of condensation forming from ice beneath the floor. The 25-year-old city-owned facility is home to the AHL’s Worcester Sharks, an affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.

Mavericks forward Josh Howard was suspended Friday for the first two games of the regular season, punishment for a fight with Sacramento center Brad Miller earlier in the week. Howard was ejected from an exhibition Tuesday against the Kings after delivering a forearm to the back of Miller’s neck. He also pushed Miller, who had shoved Dallas guard Devin Harris to the ground.

Kobe Bryant returned to the lineup and scored 20 points, 16 in the third quarter, to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 126-106 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Thursday night. Bryant, who skipped some practices this week to rest his legs, sat out the second and fourth quarters but scored 12 straight for the Lakers in the third.
