Cardinals hand Steelers first loss 21-14Cardinals hand Steelers first loss 21-14

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin watches his team play the Arizona Cardinals in the second quarter of an NFL football game Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in Glendale, Ariz. The Cardinals defeated the Steelers, 21-14.

Ken Whisenhunt will admit it now. This game meant a little more than usual to Arizona’s first-year coach. So imagine his joy as the Cardinals “out-Steelered” Pittsburgh in a rugged 21-14 stunner of his old team Sunday. Rookie Steve Breaston returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown and Arizona’s defense shut down Pittsburgh’s high-scoring offense most of the day to hand the Steelers their first loss.

Chiefs score 24 straight, shock ChargersChiefs score 24 straight, shock Chargers

Kansas City Chiefs' Tony Gonzalez pulls in a 22 yard touchdown pass in the middle of several San Diego Charger defenders in the third quarter of the Chiefs' 30-16 victory in their football game in San Diego, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007.

The sorry state of the San Diego Chargers can be summed up in one word: “MAR-TY! MAR-TY! MAR-TY!” The fans have had it just four games into Norv Turner’s tenure as head coach, and Sunday’s shocking 30-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs — who rallied for 24 straight points and got huge plays from two rookies — caused the Chargers to lose their Southern California cool.

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, top, fumbles after being sacked by Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney (93) during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game in Indianapolis, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007. Indianapolis won, 38-20.

The Indianapolis Colts spent one quarter trying to figure out Denver’s confounding ground game. Peyton Manning spent the next three confusing the Broncos defense. Manning led the Colts to six scores on his final eight possessions, rallying Indianapolis from an early 10-point deficit to an impressive 38-20 victory Sunday — giving the Broncos one more anguishing chapter in this lopsided rivalry.
