Kellen Winslow missed his second straight practice Thursday with a partially dislocated left shoulder, and coach Romeo Crennel indicated team doctors will decide if the tight end plays against Baltimore. Winslow got hurt while making a catch in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss at Oakland. He landed hard on his shoulder, suffering a subluxation — or separation.

The New York Mets’ lead in the NL East is gone. They might not even be in the playoffs at all if they can’t snap out of their near historic funk. The spiraling Mets managed just three hits off Joel Pineiro and Jason Isringhausen in a 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night that dropped them into a first-place tie with Philadelphia in the division.

Even though both teams are in the playoff picture, only the San Diego Padres looked the part. Milwaukee made five errors, its most in eight years, and Scott Hairston hit a tiebreaking, three-run double to lead the Padres to a 9-5 victory over the Brewers on Thursday night. “They had some miscues, and Hairston came up with a big hit down the line,” Padres manager Bud Black said.

Nathan Vasher wouldn’t rule out playing Sunday, but a noticeable limp and a cautious tone indicated the Chicago Bears may be without the cornerback when they visit the Detroit Lions. The Bears’ other starting cornerback, Charles Tillman, could miss the game, too. Vasher tweaked his groin in last week’s 34-10 loss to Dallas, Tillman suffered a high ankle sprain.

Running back Rudi Johnson is expected to miss the Cincinnati Bengals’ game Monday against the undefeated New England Patriots because of a strained hamstring. The Bengals’ injury report listed Johnson as “out” for the game. Johnson didn’t practice on Thursday and wasn’t available for interviews.
