Washington Wizards guard Roger Mason re-signed with the team on Monday, agreeing to a one-year deal. The 6-foot-5 Mason averaged 2.7 points in 62 games as a reserve last season. “My heart is in D.C.,” Mason said. “I feel like I can have a great role with the Wizards and that we have a chance to be a great team this year.” He signed with the Wizards as a free agent before last season.
Martin St. Louis scored two power-play goals to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning past the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in a preseason game Monday night. St. Louis tied it 2-2 on his first goal, coming midway through the first. His second put Tampa Bay ahead 4-2 at 14:39 of the second. Andre Roy and Andreas Karlsson also scored for the Lightning.

Houston Texans defensive tackle Cedric Killings was able to stand in the hospital on Monday and doctors are confident he’ll soon be walking. Killings’ progress came one day after he left the field on a stretcher after a headfirst collision with Indianapolis receiver Roy Hall. Killings fractured his C-4 vertebra and was unable to move any of his limbs for a time on the field on Sunday, said Dr.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme loves to move his arms when he talks. Monday was no exception, sore elbow and all. With both arms flailing and nothing protecting his strained right elbow, Delhomme was happy after an MRI determined he won’t need surgery. Dell Curry stepped down as assistant coach with the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday, three months after accepting the position. Curry, who has two sons who play basketball, was concerned about the time commitment for the job, a team spokesman said. Curry will work in community relations for the team. Neal Huntington, a former Cleveland Indians assistant general manager who was moved to a mostly scouting role two years ago, was hired Tuesday as the Pittsburgh Pirates’ general manager. The 37-year-old Huntington replaces Dave Littlefield, who was fired earlier this month after failing to produce a winning season since being hired in July 2001.
