Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brooks Bollinger throws during the second half of an NFL preseason football game against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, in Seattle. The Seahawks won 30-13.

Matt Hasselbeck said it felt like the season opener. Fortunately for him, it wasn’t. But at least his Seahawks feel far better about themselves than they did a week ago. Hasselbeck, playing for the first time since he had a single series in the exhibition opener two weeks ago, completed 12 of 17 passes for 129 yards and threw an interception in Seattle’s 30-13 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on…

Toronto Blue Jays' Vernon Wells scores past Los Angeles Angels catcher Jeff Mathis on a double to left by Frank Thomas during the ninth inning of a baseball game in Anaheim, Calif., Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007. Toronto won 9-2.

The Blue Jays’ 36-year-old catcher had two RBIs, scored a run with a headfirst slide and choked off another with a textbook leg block, leading Toronto to a 9-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night.

Browns’ Quinn good in win, may not startBrowns’ Quinn good in win, may not start

Cleveland Browns running back Jason Wright turns the ball up field against the Denver Broncos during the third quarter of a pre-season football game in Denver, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007.

Maybe in the regular season the red flag will come out. Preseason games don’t count and neither do touchdowns that are erroneously ruled incompletions, as Brady Quinn discovered Saturday night. Quinn was efficient and effective for the second straight game, leading the Cleveland Browns past the Denver Broncos 17-16, although it probably wasn’t enough to win him the starting job over Charlie Frye.

Redskins-Ravens game halted by lightningRedskins-Ravens game halted by lightning

The scoreboard advises fans to take cover as incoming weather causes a delay in the third quarter of a NFL pre-season game between the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens at FedEx field, Saturday, Aug. 26, 2007, in Landover, Md. Lighting delayed the start of the game for more than an hour, then another storm halted the game in the third quarter. The Redskins led 13-7 when play was suspended with 11:38 remaining in the third quarter.

The stadium lights dimmed while Kyle Boller’s throw was in mid-air. The pass was incomplete — just like the game. With more lightning on the way, officials decided enough was enough. Saturday night’s preseason game between the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins was halted with 11:38 remaining in the third quarter, giving the Redskins an abbreviated 13-7 win.
