Washington and Campbell were injured in Saturday night’s 12-10 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and they spent much of Sunday afternoon at Redskins Park getting treatment for soreness and swelling.
Frustrated and helmetless, Priest Holmes had to stand around and watch Sunday while the Kansas City Chiefs went through another practice without him. The Detroit Tigers will recall Joel Zumaya from his rehabilitation assignment to be active for Tuesday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians. Detroit optioned right-hander Aquilino Lopez to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, clearing room for Zumaya. The right-hander, whose fastball regularly tops 100 mph, had surgery three months ago to repair a ruptured tendon in his right middle finger.
Colts quarterback Jim Sorgi just wanted to make a guest appearance in the Super Bowl. Nothing fancy, maybe kneel down at game’s end or hold for an extra point. He never got a chance backing up the game’s MVP, Peyton Manning. On Monday night, Sorgi and the other super subs will take center stage in the pseudo-Super Bowl rematch between Indianapolis and Chicago.
A veteran position on a young Bills team has taken a major hit with the loss of defensive end Ryan Denney, who broke his left foot in Buffalo’s 13-10 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. Denney, who was injured on the opening kickoff, is scheduled for surgery Monday and will be out indefinitely.
