A veteran position on a young Bills team has taken a major hit with the loss of defensive end Ryan Denney, who broke his left foot in Buffalo’s 13-10 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. Aaron Hill hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to lift the Toronto Blue Jays over the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 Sunday. Vernon Wells led off the 10th with an infield single off Chad Bradford (2-6) and advanced to second on Frank Thomas’ groundout. Troy Glaus singled before Hill lofted a fly ball to left to drive in Wells with the winning run.
John Smoltz and Mark Teixeira used their power games to slow down the Arizona Diamondbacks. Teixeira drove in four runs with two homers and Smoltz became the Braves’ strikeout leader as Atlanta beat Arizona 6-2 on Sunday.
