Delgado, Maine help Mets end 5-game skid

New York Mets outfielder Endy Chavez goes to the wall as he fields a ball struck off the bat of Atlanta Braves' Willie Harris (not shown) during the eighth inning of a Major League Baseball game, Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Turner Field in Atlanta. Chavez caught the ball for the out and the Mets went on to win 7-1.

Pedro Martinez may give the Mets rotation a September boost, but John Maine has been an able stand-in all season as New York’s new ace. Carlos Delgado hit a three-run homer and Maine gave up only three hits and one run to lead New York to a 7-1 win over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night, stopping the NL East-leading Mets’ losing streak at five games.
