Going Ballistic, ridden by Cliff Berry and trained by Donnie Von Hemel, ran 1 1-8 miles in 1:50.32 and paid $19.80, $4.60 and $3. Grasshopper returned $2.20, and Past the Point paid $3.60 to show.

Since the great Michael Scudamore won the grueling steeplechase aboard Oxo in 1959, victory has eluded distinguished names lower down the family tree. Peter’s son, Tom, has had 15 tries as a jockey, failed to finish eight times and had a highest placing of eighth.
